cutting teeth
Sorry it has taken me so long to post again with Declan, packing, moving and unpacking on top of normal household chores; I am left with little time to spare.
The new apartment feels like home and we all love it. Declan loves the carpet and so do I, it is so much easier to keep clean. Only 5 minutes of vacuuming every other day compared to the sweeping that only seemed to move the dust around in the old house. Anyone that has ever lived in a house that is almost 100 years old knows that the dust is IMPOSSIBLE to manage.
Declan pushes up on his arms and can wiggle and squirm to get an object of desire. Usually food placed out of reach will get him really going; the food will be in his mouth in under a minute. He was up on all fours at book babies today after watching several other little ones crawling around.
He eats a ton and just moved on to finger foods. If he can grab it by the fist full it goes straight to his mouth but he has a hard time getting small pieces in. The banana o’s baby bite thingies are a little tricky for him.
Here a couple pics from the other day sorry about the quality my camera is still packed so I used my phone.

He's Growing So Fast!!
He is figuring out how to do things through trial and error and he is mastering the meaning of cause and effect. He can even wave hello sometimes after much coaxing.
He has really gotten into his books and loves it when mommy reads him a story, actually we usually have two stories going at once. I read a few pages of one and he gets super excited, he flaps his arms and kicks his legs and squeals while grabbing for the book. I then pick up the other one and read a few pages, his reaction is the same and we trade books. About five minutes later both books are complete, even with a few soggy corners.
When we go for walks in the stroller now, he sits forward and watches people go by to the point he is leaning over edge to see the backs of them disappear.
He keeps trying to stand and just go from my lap, he doesn’t know how, so he just falls every time. He wants to crawl but he just hasn’t quiet figured it out. 8.5 months is the average age, and I am in no hurry.
We get our second round of immunizations tomorrow, HIB and DTaP. Next month he will get HIB and Polio.
the boy is starting to fuss and needs a nap

Old video & new milestones
This was only 3 weeks ago and Declan has changed so much!
He is now a champ a tsitting and he rarely falls over.
He reaches, lunges and tries to figure out how to get toys that are out of reach
He has mastered grabbing the blocks and other objects and he passes them from hand to hand.
He did the most amazing thing today. A block was out of reach so, he lunged a few times swiping at it. When he still couldn’t reach it he grabbed another toy, a teething ring, and tried to use that toy to drag the block towards him. It worked! After a few attempts the teething ring caught the block and he pulled it back to himself.
I was so amazed, our little guy is so smart!!
Oh, and earlier a binky was way out of reach when I left the room to use the bathroom and when I cam back the paci was in his mouth.
I was all like "What the deuce!! How did you get that??"
BTW Declan is 7 months old today!

Baby Legs
Babylegs are the best winter accessory ever made! When he is in our arms or in the carrier his little pant legs always bunch way up into pseudo-shorts. This awesome little invention has eliminated that problem, keeping little Declan’s legs warm and snug in the winter chill.

Paci
I have been trying to get him to take a pacifier ever since he decided he didn’t like his 3 months ago. I have probably spent $50 on all different types and for some reason I never listened to my sisters suggestion to get a Nam paci. I finally broke down and spent another $6 just in case he would like this one. Voila! He instantly started sucking. He loves the darn thing already. I REALLY this helps make car rides a bit smoother.
I don’t believe in the cry-it-out method so getting him to take a paci is my first step in getting him to go to sleep without breast in mouth. I want him to start sleeping in his crib so Shane and I can have our bed back. I miss spooning :)
We are going to start a bedtime routine, after the holidays, that we will strictly follow each night to help with the transition.
I think the routine will go like this:
Bath
Nurse
Swing
Story
Rock to sleep
