school is back in session...

...September 22, that is.
I took a look at my online transcripts and figured out that by this spring I will have all of my pre-nursing courses done and I will be able to graduate with my AAS degree. I need two arts and letters courses, one social science and one math class to meet the degree specific requirements. the other 9 credits are elevtives aka A&P and Nutrition.
This term I am taking Intro to Humanities, Intro to Physical Anthropology and Intro to Speech Communication, so i will be knocking out my arts and letters courses and the social science one as well. my classes are online so when deco sleeps I can get some of it done and 5-6 days a week I will leave the boy at home with daddy and spend my evenings at the library and in cafes.

Declans first time camping

Snoozin to the coast

Hangin with mommy

We just got back from Declan’s first camping trip. Boy, did we have fun! With visions of salty air filling our noses and waves tickling our feet we packed up the car Thursday morning and headed west. Our good little boy slept through the entire drive. We headed north to Fort Stevens in hopes that a site would be available for two nights. Unfortunately the campground was full. We decided to head south in search of tent-land-greatness. After many difficult miles, including several stops to breast feed the boy, Declan was awake and darn tired of being in his car seat we found a campground that had an open spot. Joy! Being the smart people we are, we decided to look at the spot before staking our claim. It was awful, the sight was surrounded by RV’s in the middle of a field. We decided after so many miles we just could not settle for that, so southward we continued. We did not have to go far. On the side of the road we saw a little sign for Kilchis Park, out of desperation we followed the signs that pointed east. To our delight the campground was nestled in the woods, on the side of a mountain, along a beautiful river. To our great relief, they had a spot open for two nights. Not just any spot, an awesome semi-private spot at the far end of the grounds.
That night we did all the normal camping stuff and Declan was being a little charmer the entire time. Things got rocky once we tried to go to sleep. For the first hour or so of the night Shane slept holding Declan. Once he woke for a feeding it was just baby and mommy for the night. I don’t think I got more than 2-3 hours of sleep the entire night. After I nursed him, he would wake up every time I moved or tried to lie down. I did finally set him down and he was awake within five minutes. If I did happen to fall asleep I would pray each time I opened my eyes that the sun would be rising so I could get. The night was hellish, HELL I tell you.
The sun did finally rise and Shane got up to make us coffee and breakfast. What a good man. We spent the morning at the beach walking down the coastline looking for shells and pretty rocks to put into Declan’s memory box. The weather was absolutely amazing, the sky was overcast but the air was warm the wind was still.
After a nice walk we headed back to the campground for some lunch. After eating Shane went for a long riverside hike and swimming trip while I stayed at the campsite with the boy. I started to fall asleep while sitting in the campstool nursing so I decided the only comfortable safe place to nap with Declan would be in the car. We did get a nice long nap in the front seat of the Suby that left us both feeling refreshed.
I have to make a long story short because Deco needs some attention. The second night was amazing Declan only woke up 2 times all night and he didn’t cry either time. He woke me up that morning with the cutest coos I have ever heard. He was giving us squeals and giggles of delight for a good ten minutes before getting fussy for food. He fell asleep and stayed asleep for the entire ride home.
Pictures will be up as soon as I can find where Shane stuck the cameras.
